In addition to studies mandated by the General Assembly, JLARC staff conduct ongoing oversight of three state agencies and ongoing evaluation of state economic development initiatives.

Virginia Retirement System (VRS)
Reports on the status of VRS investments and administrative matters; oversees quadrennial actuarial audits; and publishes an informational guide for legislators.

Commonwealth Savers (previously Virginia529)
Reports on the status of investments and administrative matters; oversees quadrennial actuarial audits; and publishes an informational guide for legislators.

Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA)
Reports on VITA administrative matters, the information technology services VITA provides to state agencies, and VITA oversight of agency information technology projects, procurements, and security.

Economic development incentives
Reports on the effectiveness of Virginia’s economic development grants, tax credits, sales tax exemptions, and other incentives, and their economic benefits to the state.
